Our Mississauga dentists provide dental sedation options to help our anxious patients get the care they need with a minimum of stress.
Types of Sedation
At Southcommon Dental, our dentists provide the following types of sedation for our patients.
- Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) is an inhaled sedative that allows a patient to remain awake and able to communicate, but helps time to pass more quickly.
It increases the pain threshold and lessens anxiety for a better dental experience.
- Oral Sedation
With oral sedation, the patient takes the sedative orally, in the shape of pills or liquid.
The medication allows patients to relax and become drowsy. While the patient may fall asleep, they can be woken and respond purposefully.
- IV Sedation
IV Sedation is administered directly into the blood-stream for the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia.
You will feel drowsy and relaxed after the medication is administered. You may fall asleep and will be able to breathe on your own, but you will not remember the procedure afterward.
Dental Anxiety & Your Oral Health
Dental anxiety can become completely overwhelming, making it difficult or even impossible for some people to get the preventive or restorative dental care they need.
Nevertheless, regular dental care is essential for preventing oral disease and the need for more invasive treatments. It should therefore not be avoided. At Southcommon Dental, we do everything we can to help patients feel relaxed and safe when they visit us.
